Description
Great Harwood, St Bartholomew’s and Churchfield House, 1968
A favourite view of Great Harwood, painted in watercolour with the gardens in full summer bloom.
Churchfield House was originally a private residence, later bequeathed to the town for the use of its people. It also housed a small library, where townspeople could sit and read during the day, a lovely reminder of how generous this corner of Great Harwood has always been.
Beside it stands St Bartholomew’s Anglican Parish Church, built in the Perpendicular style in coursed rubble, with a tower dating from the 15th century. It is a popular and well-attended church, with ties to many in the community, and it has watched over the town for generations.
This print captures the view as it was in 1968, a snapshot of local history and a lasting reminder of home.
