Description
The New Congregational Chapel, Hoddlesden
In the centre of Hoddlesden once stood the New Congregational Chapel, together with its Sunday School. It was built to replace the old chapel, which stood in a more remote spot, and it soon became the heart of village life.
For generations it was where families gathered, where children learned and sang, and where friendships were made. Sadly, it was demolished in 1987, but it is still fondly remembered by many who grew up with it or whose parents and grandparents worshipped there.
This print, taken from my original watercolour, captures the chapel as so many people remember it: a quiet landmark standing at the centre of the village. It is a keepsake for anyone with a link to Hoddlesden, and a piece of local history for the wall.
