Tockholes Village
This watercolour captures the corner of the Lancashire moorland village of Tockholes where Old School Lane meets Tockholes Road. The row of stone cottages curves up the hill, their slate roofs and chimney pots catching the soft light of a pale summer sky.
The cottage porches shelter the front doors, window boxes and front gardens overflow with geraniums and other colourful blooms, and a glowing lamp in a window on the right adds a homely touch.
The old red telephone box still stands here, a small splash of colour among the cottages and a reminder of the village’s character. Beyond, the lane rises towards the green hillside, drawing the eye up and away from the quiet foreground.
