Description

Whalley

The quaint village of Whalley, a civil parish of the Ribble Valley. Looking through The Ginnel towards the Parish Church of Saint Mary, with The Dog public house standing proudly at the corner, this painting captures a tranquil moment at a busy junction known by many.

The old stone buildings frame the view, leading your eye down the street to the church tower rising above the trees. The Dog’s whitewashed walls and window boxes of red and yellow flowers add a warm splash of colour. Soft washes and delicate, loose brushwork bring out the weathered stonework, the slate roofs and the fresh spring greens of the leaves against a pale blue sky.
