Description
Cherry Tree Station, Blackburn, 1923
Here, the steam trains still puffed beneath the bridge at the bottom of Green Lane, and the age of steam was very much alive. The line built to carry coal to the East Lancashire Mills also carried local workers to Chorley, a vital link in the rhythm of daily life.
The ticket office seen here in about 1923 was built with a quiet Victorian elegance that spoke of an era when even the humblest local station was made to be admired.
A gift with meaning: ideal for anyone from Cherry Tree or Blackburn, or any railway history fan
