Description
Cherry Tree, Tram
Where the Tram Line once ended.
At the end of Green Lane, where the road opens out into the heart of Cherry Tree, life carries on much as it always has. Neighbours stop to talk. Children hurry past. And beneath the everyday bustle, there’s a story that’s easy to miss.
This was once the end of the line. This corner was part of the Blackburn Corporation Tramways, a network that carried workers, shoppers and families through the town, rattling along the rails with a bell and a hum that people knew by heart.
In April 1939, the last tram passed over these rails. There was no grand farewell, just the quiet end of an era, as the road moved on to a new way of travelling.
Not everything has lasted. The local ice cream shop and the traditional red phone box that once stood here, now, they too have passed into memory, just like the trams before them.
